Chandigarh, December 23: The president of the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), Satman Singh Chahal on Thursday claimed that only 165 Non Resident Indians (NRIs) had enrolled as voters in the state for the forthcoming Assembly polls, of which 12 had registered in Jalandhar district. Addressing a press conference here, Chahal said: “ A less number of NRIs have enrolled as voters because the procedure has not been properly published by authorities here and is very lengthy. Besides they have to come back to India to vote in the elections. There should be a procedure by which they can cast their ballot in the embassy concerned or through postal ballot like in case of defence personnel”.
