Beejing: A "flying saucer" appearing in the sky above Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, delayed flights at the city's Shuangliu Airport, according to reports from local internet news portal News Chengdu.
Between 11:20am and 12:30pm, all flights at the airport were put under the direct control of authorities. Rumors of alien visitation quickly spread throughout the internet. Some Chinese netizens exaggerated the incident, saying that some flights had conducted emergency landings in the countryside in order to evade the UFO.
Other rumors suggested that all airports in Chengdu were put under the control of the military as a result of the flying saucer. One netizen posted a actual photo of the UFO on the web, claiming to be a friend of a chief attendant for Sichuan Airlines.
Eventually, Fan Jianchuan, a member of Political Consultative Conference in Sichuan province, said that the flying saucer was a military aircraft that had been ordered to land at the airport. Since the Chengdu airport was shut down for a military exercise, the plane changed course and headed for nearby Chongqing.
