NRI magistrate Rashpal Chana convicted of manslaughter in UK

London, November 24: An Indian origin magistrate in the UK has been convicted alongwith his girlfriend of manslaughter of a 2-year-old girl who died after being scalded in a shower. Kristiana Logina died two weeks after being scalded at her home in Birmingham, in February 2010. Rashpal Chana, 49, who served as a magistrate in Birmingham, and the girl’s mother Eva Logina, 25, denied the charge. The two did not seek treatment which could have saved Kristiana, prosecutors at Nottingham Crown Court said. Her burns were left untreated for so long the damaged skin eventually died and began to decay, reports from Nottingham said. Kristiana suffered burns when she was held under a hot shower by her mother, a Latvian national who came to the UK in 2007. Chana and Logina applied creams to the injuries but did not seek further treatment. Kristiana died in the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and the likely cause of her injuries was from a shower head unit or extremely hot water, the court was told.
