New Delhi, Oct 15 (PTI) To honour the Nobel Laureates from India and make the youth aware of their contribution to society, a 'Nobel Memorial Wall' was today thrown open to for Delhi kmetro users at Rajiv Chowk station. The Wall has portraits of the seven Nobel Laureates from India--Rabindranath Tagore, C V Raman, Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, Subramanyam Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan with details about their contribution to society. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Embassy of Sweden jointly inaugurated 'The Nobel Memorial Wall' today where Indian Nobel prize winners are being honoured as part of the fifth edition of the Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Week. E Sreedharan, Managing Director of DMRC, and Ame Kallin, Charge d'Affarires, Embassy of Sweden, jointly unveiled the Wall for metro users. It is a matter of pride for us to host the Nobel Memorial Wall with the Embassy of Sweden to honour our Nobel Laureates. The contributions of our Nobel Laureates have given India recognition all over the world. The Nobel Wall on the Delhi Metro is a unique way to honour them. It also gives an opportunity to our youth to know about our Nobel Laureates while they are on the move, Sreedharan said. He said a similar wall has also been built at the HUDA City Centre metro station. The Charge d'Affaires said the theme of the Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Week 2011 is 'Innovation and Creativity for Development and the contributions of the Indian Laureates' have played that very role.
In this fifth edition, we decided to honour these great minds and that's how the idea of the Nobel Wall was conceived, Kallin said. Sreedharan, while speaking about the proposed 103 km Phase 3 of the Delhi Metro, said the work for the plan has already started and three to four tenders have been awarded so far. Asked about his future plans after he retires in December, he said I will just retire and I have no future plans. After the event, Sreedharan took a round of the metro station for a while and inspected the services.
