Cold winter kills at least 40 in Afghanistan

KABUL,February21 2012(AP):  An Afghan health official says more than 40 people have frozen to death in Afghanistan’s coldest winter in years, most of them children.Health Ministry spokesman Ghulam Sakhi Kargar says the government has recorded 41 deaths from freezing in three provinces. He says all but three or four of those were children. Twenty-four of those who died were in the capital of Kabul, mostly in camps for people who have fled fighting elsewhere in the country. Kargar says the ministry is establishing mobile clinics to try to get out to people suffering in the cold.
