Journalists detained for interviewing workers on strike

Two Indian journalists working with Muscat Daily were detained and questioned while trying to photograph and interview striking workers in Oman

Muscat,Jan16: Two Indian journalists working with a local English newspaper – Muscat Daily - were detained and questioned while trying to photograph and interview striking workers from a contracting company working on the Muscat International Project.
According to sources, the two were first mobbed at the company campus by workers, who wanted their grievances published with photographs. They were also heckled by the management representatives, who were angry at the journalists being present inside the camp.
In the ensuing chaos, workers came to the rescue of the journalists, who were allowed to leave the camp, only to be held outside the gate by waiting plainclothes policemen.
The two were then taken to the Seeb Police Station and detained and questioned exhaustively before being released. “Two of our journalists were detained and questioned by the police but no charges are pressed against them,” confirmed Mohana Prabhakar, CEO and Managing Editor of Apex Press and Publishing Publication..
