Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's wife Asma could face a two-year prison sentence for spending tens of thousands of pounds on lavish accessories, as her online shopping sprees may have broken financial sanctions imposed on her husband.A trove of e-mails received and sent by Assad and his wife showed that Assad splashed out on more than £10,000 worth of candlesticks, tables and chandeliers from Paris as many Syrians faced food shortages and other hardships.
