Two Indians in Dubai convicted for attempted murder

Dubai, December 22: Two Indians in Dubai have been convicted for attempt to murder and theft of a fellow compatriot by the Dubai Court. According to a report in Emirates 24/7, VKK, 20, lift technician and KSB, 33, mason were fugitives and have been awarded three years in jail. According to the prosecution the two accused entered Anandan Biria’s friend’s flat behind Al Futaim mosque in Fareej Al Marrar and attacked him. He was having his lunch when the two came in. They threatened to kill Biria with a knief. The news report state that the accused also took two mobile phones from Biria and Dh1,500 in cash. The accused pulled him out of the flat and dragged him down the street. Biria was cornered behind a car and they slashed his neck with the knife.
Forensic report suggest that the cut could have been life threatening if he was not rescued on time. The 41 year old victim testified that the accused threatened his friends with the knife so they could not interfere to rescue him.
“They attacked me because I cooperate with the police and notified them about crime suspect. Three months before the incident I notified police about the first accused who committed a theft and was sentenced one month in jail,” he testified. Policeman Mohammed Saeed testified that he has arrested VKK on February 14, in the same area of the victim’s accommodation. Police confiscated with him a knife which was sustained with blood. The victim recognised the accused when shown in an identification parade. The accused confessed to the crime. The second accused was arrested on February 26, 2001 while attempting to flee via Dubai International airport.” Forensic reported that the blood in the crime area and on the knife confiscated with the accused belonged to the victim.
