NRI lawmaker Keith Vaz to chair international conference on radicalisation

London, December 10: Non-resident Indian lawmaker and UK parliamentarian Keith Vaz is going to chair a major international conference next week on the radicalisation of youths. The conference will be held at De Montfort University in Leicester. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, The Reverend Jesse Jackson, the civil rights leader, and James Brokenshire, the Minister for Security, will give keynote speeches on the roots of violent radicalisation. The conference, which is part of the Committee”s current inquiry into the roots of radicalisation, will be attended by over 250 people and organisations with an interest in the subject. “Eliminating violent radicalisation is a key priority for this Government and Parliament. I am delighted to be bringing the Home Affairs Committee to Leicester for this conference and to be hearing from so many prestigious speakers on this important subject,” said Vaz, the Member of Parliament for Leicester East. “The Government has cited universities and prisons as the location where radicalisation takes place. It is therefore appropriate that we are holding such a key event at De Montfort University,” he added.
