Indian-origin Munir Patel jailed for tampering with British court records

London, November 19: A 22-year-old Indian-origin man, who worked as a court clerk in Britain, has been jailed for taking bribes and tampering with records at the office where he worked.Munir Patel charged 500 pounds every time he removed drivers’ speeding conviction records at the Redbridge Magistrates’ Court, The Sun reported Saturday.

Police said Patel helped at least 53 people evade prosecution for driving offences.He was handed a three-year prison term under new bribery laws. He was also ordered to serve six years concurrently for misconduct in a public office.Patel, a resident of Dagenham, east London, was caught in a sting operation when he bragged to an undercover journalist that he took bribes “all day long”.He was seen taking ten 50-pound notes in return for clearing a motorist caught speeding.Patel pleaded guilty at the Southwark Crown Court to charges of bribery and misconduct in a public office.
