Director Salim Ahamed's 'Adaminte Makan Abu' (Malayalam film) has been chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars by the Film Federation of India.
Adaminte Makan Abu is a family drama about an elderly Muslim couple, who struggles to find money to fulfill their dream of going on pilgrimage to Haj.
Produced and directed by Salim Ahamed, the film was also chosen as the Best Feature Film at the 58th National Film Awards for 2010. It is said that the jury of the 58th National Film Awards had recommended that movie that wins the top award should be India's official entry at the Oscars every year.
"When the full jury of feature film in National Film Awards headed by J.P. Dutta presented their report to the honourable minister this year (Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Ambika Soni), they told the minister that Malayalam feature film 'Adaminte Makan Abu', which has won the best feature film award, should be India's official entry to the Oscar this year," said Bhupendra Kainthola, director (Indian Panorama & National Film Awards).
