Indian-Mongolian armies conduct counter-insurgency exercise

New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) Strengthening their military relationship, Indian and Mongolian armies conducted a two-week counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism exercise under the UN mandate in Mongolia. The Exercise codenamed 'Nomadic Elephant' had started on September 16 where both the armies exchanged their military experience as part of improvement of bilateral military ties, Army officials said here. 60 troops from 1 Assam Regiment and equal number of soldier from Mongolian Army participated in the joint exercise. The exercise gains importance with a series of recent diplomatic visits by Indian dignitaries to Mongolia. President Pratibha Patil visited Mongolia in July followed by the visit of Army Chief General V K Singh in early September. India and Mongolia have already established a military training cooperation programme which includes joint exercises and training of Mongolian Armed Forces in Indian military establishment, the officials said. India has also provided other forms of assistance like non-lethal military equipment for the Mongolian Armed Forces on UN assignment.
