Bhutan king to wed Sanawar girl

CHANDIGARH: After the William-Kate fairytale wedding, now it's time for one in Bhutan. This time, the queen-to-be has a connection closer home. Jetsun Pema, who is set to wed the king of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, in October, is an alumna of Lawrence School Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh. As the school readies for a royal celebration, Jetsun's teacher, Neelam Tahlan recalls her as a spirited girl. At Sanawar, the news of royal wedding has stirred quite a buzz. Nearly a decade younger than the king, Jetsun joined school on April 13, 2006, as class-XI student. She studied English, history, geography, economics and painting and completed her plus two on March 31, 2008. "I have been looking forward to the future, but now my eyesight is going bad and the crystal ball is always cloudy, accept for when I look into the past. Thank you Sanawar for the memories," Jetsun had said during the valedictory address in Sanawar. As a student, Jetsun always did her house — the Himalaya House – proud. Neelam, who was Jetsun's house mistress said, "She was a good athlete and basketball player. When she had to learn the bhangra, she turned out to be a good at it.'' Apart from bhangra, Jetsun was a member of the girl's band of the school and took part in western dances. Ecstatic on hearing that Jetsun is going to be the queen of Bhutan, Tahlan is expecting a wedding invitation from her favourite student with whom she is connected through a social networking site. "Last year when Jetsun visited the school she had brought gifts for me. As we are very close, I am preparing to attend Royal wedding in October," she added.
