NEW DELHI,February 25 2012(AP): Italy’s foreign minister will visit India to seek the release of two Italian marines accused of fatally shooting two Indian fishermen off southwest India. The marines were part of a cargo ship’s security team, and India says they mistook the fishermen for pirates and killed them last week. The marines were arrested Sunday. New Delhi say the Italian men should be tried in India because the killings happened on an Indian boat. Rome says it happened in international waters and the case belongs in Italy. Staffan De Mistura, Italy’s foreign ministry undersecretary, said Italian and Indian experts conducted ballistic tests Friday to determine if “it was a good-faith mistake by the Italian military.” He said Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi would be in New Delhi next week.
