London, February 9,2012: Indian-origin British MP Keith Vaz will be on a week-long visit to India from February 11 to strengthen “vital and enduring” bilateral relationship.“Following recent events I am keen to strengthen Britain and India’s vital and enduring relationship. It is to both countries’ benefit to maintain it as one of the closest and warmest in the world,” Vaz said.Vaz, Chairman of the influential Home Affairs Committee and Vice Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on diabetes is visiting India to promote UK-India relations.He is particularly keen to encourage Indian students to study in the UK and strengthen trade relations between the two countries.Vaz, a former Minister for Europe has recently been involved in campaigning against Dow Chemicals’ sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympics.He has been vocal over the Top Gear India Christmas Special and Jeremy Clarkson’s unhelpful comments.He has also been supporting the family of murdered Indian student Anuj Bidve, and met with them in British Parliament when they came to the UK to view their son’s body.Vaz will be meeting the Bidve family in Mumbai and will hand over the donations from the Anuj Bidve Memorial Fund.Vaz also wishes to “repair relations” between the two countries.
