56cm-tall Nepalese man Chandra Bahadur Dangi, 72, claims world's shortest man

TINY Chandra Bahadur Dangi has a big claim — that he is the world's shortest man
Khatamand,Febrauary10,2012:The 72-year-old told TV stations in his native Nepal that he stands just 1ft 10in tall and weighs 26lbs. That would make him even smaller than the current world record holder, 1ft 11.6in Junrey Balawing from the Philippines. Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday said: "We cannot confirm Mr Dangi's height until formal measurements have been taken and verified by Guinness World Records officials but we hope to undertake the verification in the next few weeks.
"We intend to travel to Mr Dangi's village to officially measure him and are currently making provisions for medical professionals to assist us in the verification." Members of Dangi's family claimed the wannabe record-holder was in excellent health and had never been to hospital — or even taken medicine.Nepal has a history of producing short men. Before Balawing, the previous record-holder was Nepalese Khagendra Thapa Magar. Measuring just 2ft 2.4in tall, Magar led a tourism campaign for his home country, which at the time boasted the world's smallest man, and in Mount Everest, the highest mountain.
