Across India, TOI continued to be the overwhelming numero uno with an average issue readership of 74.7 lakh, almost double that of the second placed newspaper, Hindustan Times, which had an AIR of 37.3 lakh. The Hindu came in third with 21.7 lakh readers. In Mumbai, TOI remained the dominant No. 1 with 15.35 lakh readers, while Mumbai Mirror maintained its No. 2 position with 7.54 lakh readers. The top two newspapers in Mumbai thus continue to be from the Times Group stable.
In Bangalore, TOI grew by an impressive 17% over the previous quarter and maintained its clear leadership position with 5.19 lakh readers, well over double - in fact almost triple - Karnataka daily Deccan Herald's readership of 1.95 lakh. Bangalore Mirror was a strong No. 3 with 1.52 lakh readers.
The Times of India also posted strong growth in Hyderabad, with the readership increasing by 11% to 1.39 lakh readers. Another centre that saw strong growth was Kolkata, which posted a 5% rise over the previous quarter to touch a readership of 5.64 lakh.
In Ahmedabad, too, TOI remained the overwhelming No. 1 with 1.24 lakh readers. The No. 2, Ahmedabad Mirror - also a Times Group newspaper - grew by a whopping 41% to reach 52,000 readers, with English language papers from outside the Times Group having a negligible presence.
In Lucknow, TOI not only retained its top position but further increased its lead over competitors, posting 10% growth to reach 1.07 lakh readers - more than four times Hindutan Time's readership of 25,000.
In Pune too, TOI's readership of 1.92 lakh is six times more than the 32,000 posted by the No. 2 brand, DNA.
