DUBAI: A newly-wed Indian man drowned while swimming in the Sharjah sea while his wife watched helplessly from the beach. The incident took place on Saturday evening, but the details emerged only yesterday. Chris Mon, 28, hailing from Kottayam district in Kerala, had gone to the beach along with his wife and friends and decided to go for a swim while his wife stayed on the beach, Emirates 24/7 newspaper reproted. After sometime his friends realised that Chris had ventured too far and was being pulled in to the sea due to a high tide. They alerted life guards who went in and pulled an unconscious Chris out.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. A member of Chris's family told the newspaper that Chris had married Neena, also from Kerala, six months ago. According to the report, efforts are being made to repatriate the body for burial in India.
