Pak cable operators block BBC

LONDON: Pakistan cable operators blocked BBC World News as a reaction to its broadcasting a two-part television documentary entitled " Secret Pakistan" , which slammed Islamabad for double crossing the West in the war against terror in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The UK foreign office has refused to enter into a spat with the Pakistani government saying, "This is matter for the Pakistan government and the BBC. The BBC is editorially independent so any complaints should be taken up directly with them." A spokesman for the Pakistani high commission in London said that not just BBC World News, but all international news channels were being taken off air by the All Pakistan Cable Operators' Association in response to Nato air strikes. He described the APCOA as a "private body". The BBC said it was deeply concerned by the censorship and called for its channel to be speedily reinstated . "We condemn any action that threatens our editorial independence and prevents audiences from accessing our impartial international news service." In the documentary US intelligence officials accused Pakistan of prentending to be an ally in public while secretly arming and training the Taliban.
