Eight NRIs among 9 killed in Surat road accident

Surat, December 21: According to a report in The Indian Express, eight members of two non-resident Indian families and a driver died when a multi-utility vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck on NH-8 at Kosamba in Surat district.

Police said the deceased were native of Sagvi village in Vadodara and had settled in Georgia, US. They were on their way to Surat to attend a marriage function when the accident took place in the morning.
According to the details received, after they crossed Kosamba, driver Jasu Patel lost control over the Tata Sumo, which jumped over the road divider and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
All the passengers and the driver were rushed to a nearby hospital, where eight of them were declared dead on arrival while Jasu succumbed to his injuries later. The deceased were identified as Jayesh Patel, Jagdish Patel, his son Bhavesh, daughter Bhavini, Pinakin Patel, his wife Kalpana, daughter Chetali and son Arpit. Jagdish’s wife Indira is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
