Jayalalithaa winds up deposition in DA case


Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who appeared before a special court here today in connection with the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case, completed answering 1,339 questions framed by the judge. AIADMK supremo appeared for the fourth time since last month before special judge in connection with the case. After the proceedings, the Special Public Prosecutor, B. V. Acharya, said that Jayalalithaa had claimed that the case was politically motivated and she had been framed in a fake case at the insistence of her political rival, Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam party."The entire case against her is fabricated at the insistence of her political rival, DMK (Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam) party which was in power in the year 1997 and therefore this is a politically motivated case," he added.Acharya further said Jayalalithaa has filed 'a very detailed' statement along with several documents in addition to her deposition."All the questions i.e. 1339 questions' answers were completed and she has answered all the questions. Now, today she has also filed a very detailed written statement in addition to the answers which, she has given," he said.Till Tuesday, Jayalalithaa had answered 1047 questions asked in the court over her role in acquired properties.The court has postponed the next hearing of the case on November 29 for which Jayalalithaa would not be required to be present.The Supreme Court had on October 19 directed Jayalalithaa to appear before a designated Bangalore court, after the government of Karnataka assured her that all measures would be taken to protect her.The trial of the case, allegedly involving accumulation of assets to the tune of over Rs.66 crore by Jayalalithaa between 1991 and 1996, was shifted to Bangalore by the apex court after DMK leader K. Anbazhagan filed a petition pleading that the AIADMK Government might otherwise influence the course of the trial.

Bangalore, Nov 23 : With her fourth appearance at a trial court on Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa finished answering all the 1,339 questions that the court had framed against her in connection to the Rs 66-crore disproportionate assets case. She answered at least 190 questions related to the case during an interrogation session that lasted for nearly four hours on Wednesday.She headed back to Chennai after the session was over, media reports said.The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo made her fourth appearance at the court on Wednesday.She had answered 600 questions at the Bangalore court on Tuesday.On Tuesday, Jayalalithaa arrived at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited airport and then shifted to the special court in Parappana Agrahara Jail complex.The Chief Minister was accompanied by her close friend Sasikala Natarajan and her adopted son V Sudhakaran, media reports said.Last month, Jayalalithaa had appeared before the court for two consecutive days and answered nearly 600 questions in Bangalore.She was ordered to appear in front of the trial court on Oct 20 and Oct 21 by the Supreme Court.
Jayalalithaa urged the apex court that the trial court should have finished asking her all the questions in the two days she had appeared and she should be allowed to give answers to the remaining questions through writing.
Cloaked in heavy security, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had flown from Chennai to Bangalore for her appearance.The case of disproportionate wealth allegedly accumulated by Jayalalithaa dates back from 1991 to 1996 when she was the chief minister.
