NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old surgeon, who was the batch topper in the masters course, strangled his MBA wife with a dupatta in their west Delhi house last Friday night, put the body in his car and travelled more than 1,000km before dumping it in the Ganga near Allahabad. The accused, Dr Chandra Vibhas Sahu, a senior resident doctor at west Delhi's DDU hospital, had a history of violent behaviour towards his wife during the couple's 10-monthold marriage. The victim, Supriya Tussar, 27, had done her BTech from Hyderabad and had a masters in business administration from Rajasthan. She had recently got a Rs 85,000 job offer from an IT major. Both hailed from Jharkhand. Sahu, who was arrested on Monday, reportedly told the police he was "physically and mentally incompatible" with his wife. Though the immediate provocation for the crime is not clear, additional CP (west) V Renganathan said Sahu could have been planning it for some time. The local Hari Nagar police had received several calls in the past about fights between the couple with Sahu often getting violent. The police said, after killing his wife, Sahu stuffed the body in a canvas bag and put it in his i20 car, which was a wedding gift from the girl's family chosen by Supriya. He drove almost non-stop to Bihar. But suspecting he was being tracked by his in-laws, Sahu turned back and drove to Haria in rural Allahabad.
He then dumped the body in the Ganga, expecting it to be washed away. "But the place where he dropped her body was a swamp caused by flooding. When the water receded, the UP cops recovered the body," said an investigator. Supriya Tussar a BTech from Hyderabad and an MBA, was offered 85,000 salary a month by an IT major, but her husband, Dr Chandra Vibhas Sahu, didn't want her to work.
Sahu, senior resident of surgery at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, was often violent with Tussar during their 10-month marriage. Tussar had even lodged a complaint with police.
Sahu threw her out of the house in February 2011. When she returned in July, he forced her to spend a week in a mental hospital "to prove she was mad."
