Forty one stranded Indian workers of a construction company in Bahrain staged dharna in front of Indian Embassy demanding to send them back to India immediately.
M.Bheem Reddy,Vice President, Migrants Rights Council ( MRC ), India said in a press note emailed to yahind, that Abdul Naas Construction Company in Bahrain recruited about 2,000 workers from India between 2003 and 2006. But the Company was black listed by Government of India. However, the employer and Recruiting Agents managed Emigration authorities and arranged safe passage of the workers to Bahrain. The workers were not provided with proper food and accommodation. Even the salaries were also not paid to them as promised. 128 workers came out from the company. The Company filed a case in Bahrain Court against the workers and got favourable order. The Bahrain court imposed "Travel Ban" to all 128 workers. If they want to go to their home country each worker should pay 497 Dinars ( Rs,70,000) as fine.
Migrants Rights Council (MRC) President P. Narayana Swamy filed a Public Interest Litigation in AP High Court asking how the authorities allowed recruiting the workers for a black listed company. Upon which the Honorable High Court ordered the Central Government to solve the problem of 128 Indians Stranded in Bahrain.
Even after that nothing happened till today, which is why 41 workers staged a dharna before Indian embassy in Bahrain today.
Indian Ambassador in Bahrain Mr Mohan Kumar told to the workers that he is going to New Delhi with in two days & will discuss the matter with Ministry of External affairs and Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.
MRC president P Narayana Swamy will meet the Ambassador at Delhi. He will shortly visit Bahrain to meet the "Travel Ban Victims" & Indian Embassy officials to speed up the process.
