MPs threatened over resolution on Sindh

KARACHI, March13 2012: Seven members of the Sindh provincial assembly on Monday claimed of having received threatening messages over the resolution that was moved in the assembly against the graffiti appearing all over Karachi.Led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) lawmaker Nusrat Seher Abbasi, who spoke on a point of order, said the text messages warned the lawmakers to understand their fate if they ever passed a similar resolution. Abbasi and several legislators from the PML-F, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the National People’s Party had moved the resolution last Friday that was passed unanimously. Sindh Culture Minister Sassi Palijo and PPP lawmaker Humera Alwani had noted that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) refused to back the resolution and implied that the graffiti was done at the behest of the party. This allegation by the PPP legislators was, however, rejected by MQM parliamentary leader and a minister Sardar Ahmed, who categorically stated that his party was never against the resolution.
Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan said that the lawmakers had given him the numbers the messages were being sent from and he had already ordered investigation into it.
